Rock Band Class
In Rock Band Class students will experience what it is like to perform together as a group. They will have to be able to play their parts well enough that they can listen to the other members of the group and focus on some of the more peripheral aspects of being in a band. They will learn band etiquette as it applies to rehearsal and performance, equipment setup and settings, stage presence, teamwork, responsibility, and much more!
This class is taught by Tony Bonelli, on an 8’x16’ carpeted stage in an 18’x22’ room, complete with backline (drum set, bass amp, guitar amps etc.), P.A. system, 16 track digital recording, and stage lights! This room has been specifically designed to simulate a typical rock band performance environment.
Students are grouped in bands based on their age, proficiency level, and taste in music. The band will choose songs by democratic vote and Tony will help them decide which ones might make the most sense for them to learn.
When a student band has learned a few songs they will be coached through group discussion on things to consider when organizing their songs into a “set list”. Thereby determining the song sequence, which songs can carry right into the next, when to stop to address their audience, and things of that nature. Student bands that reach this level may be encouraged to try and write at least one of their own songs with the guidance of their coach.
We recommend that students that sign up for rock band class also take a weekly private lesson at Mode 4 Music Studios so that their teachers can easily cross-reference assignments, but it is not always required. Positive results will increase exponentially if all the members of a band stay together to sign up for subsequent sessions of rock band class.
Students enrolled in rock band class will have the opportunity to perform in our spring and winter concerts. Other special event performance opportunities may also be presented to student bands from time to time.
